Joining Christ in His Work

As I mentioned in the last post, Lesslie Newbigin has been a key conversation partner for me during this season of church planting. In the more challenging moments of this work, the following words from Newbigin have often come to mind:

The deepest motive for mission is simply the desire to be with Jesus where he is, on the frontier between the reign of God and the usurped dominion of the devil.

To join in this work is to be able to enjoy communion with Christ. What a joy it is to see Jesus at work—not just in those whom we’re trying to serve—but especially as his work in me becomes so apparent.
